Christiane Maasburg

Director of Research and Operations

Christiane Maasburg joined Athena Global in 2001 as a founding partner. Christiane previously occupied the position of Associate Expert at the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, where she was responsible for the coordination of workshops involving participants from the developing world and assisted in the work of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS). She was also responsible for the coordination of the workshop that led to the official creation of the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), based on the work accomplished during UNISPACE III's Space Generation Forum. Prior to working with the United Nations, Christiane worked at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At Athena Global, Christiane has worked primarily on research mandates in the areas of environment, international development, manned spaceflight and security, as well as leading the organization of Athena Global conferences and workshops. Recently, Christiane led the research work on the Athena Global Earth Observation Guide 2005.

Christiane has an Master's in History from the University of Vienna, is a graduate of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna and the Summer Session of the International Space University (ISU). She sits on the ISU's Governing Council.
