Mike Kirby

Senior Associate, Satellite Remote Sensing

Mike Kirby joined Athena Global as a senior associate in 2005, and has partnered with Athena since 2001. Mike has more than 30 years experience in the Earth observation business and other space ventures involving Search and Rescue, Telecommunications, Disaster Management and Defense. Starting with his Masters Degree specializing in Image Processing and Pattern Recognition, he has held prominent positions at the executive and board levels in a number of leading space companies including Intera Information Technologies Corporation (currently Intermap Technologies), EMS Technologies, SPAR Remote Sensing Services Ltd., RADARSAT International Inc., and the SAR Corporation. He has served on a number of national and international advisory boards and committees, including the Canadian Space Agency's Advisory Board for Earth and the Environment.

Over the years, Mike has played a key role in the successful development and implementation of several Earth observation commercialization activities related to a number of important EO missions including the RADARSAT-1 program, ERS-1, JERS-1, International Space Station and more recently, the RADARSAT-2 initiative. His extensive experience includes the successful leadership and management of initiatives in more than 80 countries involving a diverse variety of applications and markets. He is currently working on Athena Global's Earth Observation Portal team.

Mike has a Master's in Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor's degree (Geography) from the University of Windsor.

Mike marries dedication and a commitment to excellence with his extensive and in-depth knowledge of global Earth observation in his contributions to Athena Global mandates.
