Tiit Romet

Senior Associate, Security & Disasters

Tiit Romet joined Athena Global in 2003 as a senior associate. He is responsible for intelligence and security mandates within the company. Tiit's background is in strategic planning, threat and risk analysis, and business and competitive intelligence. He has extensive experience in both the public and private sector.

Recently, Tiit led the global security and disaster analysis for the Athena Global Earth Observation Guide 2005. He has contributed to numerous Athena Global mandates, including the Space and National Security position paper for the Government of Canada. For ten years, Tiit served as head of strategic defence intelligence analysis (Scientific Intelligence and Emerging Technologies - DGInt J2) for the Canadian Department of National Defence, during which he co-authored numerous reports and classified opinions, and served on interdepartmental committees relating to infrastructure protection and security. He was closely involved with export control regimes such as the Wassenaar Arrangement and the Missile Technology Export Control Regime. Tiit has performed analysis and provided advice on export controls and market opportunities to restricted regions such as Eastern Europe, China, Middle East and South East Asia. In 1999, Tiit founded Kinsei RST, a technology consulting company specializing in emerging technologies and international S&T analysis. He has also worked for several years with informatic technology security specialists Electronic Warfare Associates. He has published over 90 articles in scientific open literature, book chapters, proceedings and government documents. Tiit is actively involved in athletics management and coaching, and is former Director of the Canadian National Junior Volleyball Team.

Tiit studied biomedicine and holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree (Physiology) from the University of Toronto.

Tiit brings to the Athena Global team strong analytic skills and solid judgment, as well as extensive experience in and exposure to emerging technologies, strategic intelligence and the international security and intelligence community.
